Ordeals of Adolescence: Part 5

It’s a day like all others and you see a new girl enter your classroom with a hairstyle you find cool. Or maybe there's a new guy in your neighborhood with a Harry Potter t-shirt. Or its raining and the only person with an umbrella is that short boy who you avoided talking to. Or maybe, as was in my case, you had the ill fate of having only that one girl same in a class full of strangers. But whatever the scenario, your first meet and greet with your now best friend hasn’t been beautiful. But now you are here at a time when they are a part of your everything.
I have heard several things about bestfriends. Most is the usual cliché of friends forever and ‘your partner in crime’ but having a bestfriend for 7 years has taught me that a bestfriend is more than that. If there’s one myth I have realised false, it’s “sugar spice everything nice” is NOT the definition of a bestfriend. For the worst fights I have had have been with my bestfriend and so have been the most terrible nights but if there’s one thing out there that’s absolutely true its, “full moon or crescent, they’re always present.” In a span of 7 years I’ve learnt a lot of things about how a friendship works and how it doesn’t.  I have learnt that a bestfriend is not who makes you laugh all the time but also one who laughs when they shouldn’t and when it’s a really bad time to do so. A bestfriend is not one who cries with you when you’re crying but rather one who drags you out of your pool of tears and makes you ready for the next war. They’re not your bestfriend alone but also your worst enemy, you know why? Because they’ve your worst secrets. A bestfriend is several things but not a best friend alone. They’re not one who will support you good or bad, but one who’ll push you in the good and drag you by your neck out of the bad. When you fight you aren’t going to miss them, you’re going to make yourself believe that they were a dumbass and you are better off without them. And the next achievement you have without them, you’re gonna feel yourself up in a mountain for having accomplished it alone but then suddenly you’ll desperately need them  there to bring you back to ground because you’ll know you are too afraid to climb down alone.

If you think having a bestfriend is forever bliss, then beware because they can be a nightmare. You’ll get so annoyed by them that you’ll want to tell them to shut up. But you wont. Not because they didn’t, but because they’re yours. And their problems are not their problems but yours too. You know why you don’t feel the distance when you meet after a long time? Because you are so used to them that you aren’t individuals anymore. They don’t have to be there all the time now. You know all their replies and all their reactions by now. They aren’t the one who wishes you HBD at midnight but the one who doesn’t wish you cause they’re there on your bday replying thank you on your behalf. You know why they exaggerate these bestfriends? Because they are that part of your family that you chose and who stayed by you even when they could have left and who are not your blood relations but bigger than that. And because when they are there you don’t feel the absence of your lover or maybe if you got lucky enough, they are your lover. And they might not be like you but they definitely are there inspite of it. Because a bestfriend is above same musical taste or food taste, it’s that person you have found a part of your soul in, and the person you have chosen to suffer all the miseries. That person is your bestfriend

So these were my thoughts on what i have experienced being bestfriends with mine. Relish your bestfriend and remember to make the most out of life with them. Likes/comments/feedbacks/suggestions are always invited. Share if you enjoyed and make me famous. Pwease ;)
